My friend Lissa asked in the comments recently if there’s ever a dull moment in our house. Apparently not.
At midnight last night, my husband and I were just heading to bed when we heard a crash in the baby’s room, followed by his screams and cries. My husband ran to the room and in that horrible, horrible, horrible voice that can only mean something bad, he hollered, “STACEY!!!!”
Eli’s crib simply fell apart in the middle of the night. It was a hand-me-down from some friends, which I was grateful to receive, since we had gotten rid of everything after our son I7. Still, the crib was old, missing some pieces, and we had to concoct a system for keeping the whole thing together. Yes, I know – we are idiots. But we’d done the same kinds of things with all four other kids – you know, jerryrig old stuff together with made-up parts, a la starving college student days – and everything had turned out ok.
Well, thankfully everything turned out ok last night, too. Eli was momentarily trapped between the mattress and bottom of the rails (the spring support for the mattress just went out), and he was scared, but unhurt.
It did make for a horrible night, though, since (understandably) he didn’t want to go back to sleep. Of course the crib is shot, and we won’t try anything else again with it. We’ve got him sleeping in a little portable crib, which is waaaay too small for him, but it’s alright. I only managed to get about 3 more hours of sleep out of him last night, and today was one long and whiney tirade from him. He went down well tonight, though, and I am so grateful.
Above all else, I am grateful for Heavenly Father’s blessing of safety and protection over Eli. The last 24 hours haven’t been fun, but I’m happy to deal with a tired, cranky, scared little HEALTHY boy any day of the week!

Wow. It’s true. There’s never a dull moment in the [tree, root, and twig] household!
Oh boy! xoxoxoxox
Hey Stacey, we have a crib that is not being used if you need it. It can also turn into a toddler bed. We will be home Saturday, so let me know if you want to use it. I am so glad that Eli was not hurt!
Wow that would be so scary! I’m glad he wasn’t hurt and that everything is okay.
[...] the fabulous crib our friends are lending to us (thank you, Melissa!). Remember when his old crib simply fell apart? Well, for a while we had to put him to bed in a super small pack-n-play, which he would sleep [...]
