Fitness Friday: Getting in the Groove

fitness-friday-button-new1

Finally!  A week where I don’t feel all rotten trying to post about my Wii Fit usage!  I’m not on an everyday schedule yet, but I have used it three times this week, and will likely use it for a fourth today.  I have found that I prefer doing it at night, usually after 9pm, because then I can really focus (and let loose!).  Especially when I am doing strength or yoga, I would like to actually follow the trainer’s advice and focus on whatever muscles are being toned instead of focusing on which kitchen cupboard I just heard toddler Eli opening.  And without an audience, I feel more able to flail myself around if needs be for a particular balance or aerobics game.

Speaking of games, I did Wii Fit yesterday while my toddler was watching, and he surprised me by TOTALLY cracking up during the soccer balance game.  It was so hard to focus on dodging panda heads and soccer cleats while listening to his little belly chortles.  So cute.

I continue to really love the yoga exercises – this has surprised me the most about Wii Fit.  I never thought yoga was “for me,” but I find I’m able to do the poses, and it makes me feel more confident and interested in pursuing it.  Most of the strength exercise still kick me in the heiney, but I’m not giving up yet.

The one thing I am not *totally* convinced of right now is using Wii Fit as a scale and BMI monitor.  I only say this because from one day to the next I may go up or down 6-8 pounds on the Wii.  I think it’s awesome for balance and body awareness and to get my heart pumping, but in terms of the body tests (though I do them, especially because I love to find out my Wii Fit age), I have been taking the data with a grain of salt.  Better to stick to my bathroom scale and go from there.  I’m curious to know anyone else’s thoughts on this.

See you next Friday!

  1. I’m totally with you! After having been out of town for a while, I feel I’m totally behind and still haven’t gotten back in my groove with the Wii Fit. Maybe you can help hold me accountable, since I can’t really blog about it like you do (Paul won’t let me!) I also totally agree with the problems with the scale on ours. I don’t know if it’s because we do it on the carpet, use a mat, and have a cover on it, but the scale does seem really off and fluxuates a lot. I still want it to tell me I’ve lost 20 lbs though!

  2. I agree with your comments about the yoga. My exercise class will do a week of yoga every now and then and I’ve struggled with it. But mixing the poses in with other forms of exercise appeals to me.

  3. I’m still having issues with Yoga – but I really think it’s a mindset thing, not a Yoga thing…(grin!)

Great job this week! Way better than me! ;)

  4. Great job this week! I haven’t had a problem with my weight fluctuating…but I have really thin carpet over concrete – I’ve heard that using the /fit over thick carpet can mess with your scale numbers…

  5. i can’t wait until i get one

  6. Oh my gosh, yay! I can hear a totally different tone in this post. You sound so much more positive and motivated and I’m super impressed! Congrats!

  7. Good job!

My toddler cracks up..like on the floor laughing when we do the soccer. I also put the travel sleeve I bought for the board on the floor in front of me and both the 3yo and the 1yo get on it and “Fit” with me!

I’ve ben comparing my Fit scale to the WW scale in my bathroom and they seem pretty acurate so far.

I haven’t had the guts to try the yoga or strength and I really need to…but I don’t have the time alone…like you said it is late at night or not at all for those games.

    Keep up the good work!!

  8. I don’t pay attention to the Wii scale because it doesn’t give me a certain number, but I do pay attention to the BMI kinda. I can really tell by the way my clothes fit.

My mom loves to do Yoga before bed because it helps her relax & drift off to sleep quicker!

  9. Great job Wii Fitting this week! I find that I’ve lost more inches than pounds, probably from the building of muscles and toning. I usually only pay attention to the weight once or maybe twice a week. There is such a fluctuation in water weight from day to day, but 6-8 pounds sounds like a lot! Are you weighing at the same time per day? I need to do an experiment with my bathroom scale to see if they match.
